The Abundance of Summer
This series investigates the sensory saturation and architectural density of the Algarve hinterland during its peak ecological transition. Moving away from traditional, literal landscape representation, works like Into the green and Abundance capture the overwhelming vitality of spring expanding into the unyielding heat of the summer.
Through a tactile process of physical layering—utilising acrylic, charcoal, and ink on canvas—the paintings translate the raw, almost vibrating energy of the local flora into structured abstractions. The compositions balance the chaotic, generative force of nature with a profound sense of timelessness, inviting the viewer to look past the physical surface and engage with the underlying psychological weight of the landscape.”

“Abundance” (80 x 80 cm) explores the tactile density of the Algarve’s springtime flora. Through layered applications of acrylic, charcoal, and ink, the work captures the sensory saturation of the landscape, transforming raw ecological observations into a structured abstract composition

Living in the gorgeous backyard of the Algarve means living close to nature. Houses are scattered in the landscape, their inhabitants busy with what the land produces. No one is in a hurry, as if time no longer exists. The painting “Summer feelings” gives you that timeless emotion, when people have holidays and days are endless.

“Sparkling nature” is a nature inspired abstract painting, when Spring awakes after Winter. The return of the birds and their first songs with the first wild flowers, makes nature sparkling.

Shelter and Volatility
This series investigates the psychological landscape of the Algarve hinterland, focusing on the dialogue between vulnerability and resilience. While the local environment is often romanticized, works like Agitation—conceived in the aftermath of severe winter storms—confront the chaotic, overwhelming power of nature that triggers a collective sense of human insignificance.
In contrast to this ecological turbulence, Shelter and The bird’s nest function as symbolic architectures of protection. They represent temporary spaces of safety, hope, and gestation amidst winter storms. Through an intuitive process of action and reaction, these compositions utilize gestural mark-making and restricted tonal palettes to map the delicate boundary between finding refuge and facing the storm

“The bird´s nest” is a story about hope and desire. Despite the grey weather and storms in winter, nature occasionally offers us a glimpse of what´s to come: soft, warm colours and new life. The bird´s nest is a theme of the spring we all long for, of renewal and joy. Here the bird is still deeply ensconced in its protective environment, but soon it will fly out to new horizons.

“Agitation” was born after storm Kristin in 2026. The sounds of the howling wind and the crashing waves, carrying loads of debris, provided the inspiration. It gives a feeling of insignificance but also of awe for the overwhelming nature.
