“When green takes over” demonstrates nature´s resilience: after a natural disaster, nature naturally reclaims its place. Greenery takes over. It can also represents difficult, deep valleys in our lives, where, over time, the fertile and green horizon becomes visible again. This painting was part of the exhibition in the museum of Portimão in 2025.

When green takes over in nature again

2024, “When green takes over”, 90 x 60 cm, collage, acrylic paint and mixed media on canvas

“Banana leaves” was inspired by a holiday on Madeira, where we stayed amidst of small banana-gardens. Almost every inhabitant of Madeira has such a garden. The yellow and the green are dominant in these 2 abstract paintings. The orange-red is in beautiful contrast with that. Stand alone or as a diptych.

The painting “Portuguese tomatoes” is an ode to the delicious Portuguese tomatoes. Grown up in the Netherlands where tomatoes are solely grown in greenhouses, these tomatoes are a real surprise with their sun-touched taste.
